The Police Jury also appoints members to and collects the tax millage for the Library Board, which then oversees the operation and staff of the Natchitoches Parish Library. Founded in 1939, the library recently moved to its new location.
More than 45,000 parish citizens use the parish library annually, borrowing upwards of 145,000 books, magazines, sound recordings or other items. In addition, more than 8,000 patrons are assisted each year through the Library's reference program, and through a number of special programs for children and adults alike.
