Parish Planning Created as a separate entity in 1991, the Parish Planning Office, under the guidance of the Jury appointed Planning Commission, is responsible for the oversight of the Parish Zoning Ordinances I Floodplain Planning and Development of property outside the city limits of Natchitoches.
The Planning Office is located in the courthouse building along with Parish Administration, and should be the first stop for anyone planning to build a home or relocate a mobile home within the parish. The staff will assist the property owner in assuring the planned construction or move will not be in a flood prone area, and will assist and direct the project through the other steps (should rezoning or sewer problems arise) toward securing the Final Development Permit required to get a permanent electricity hookup. The Planning Office is also working with a number of other government offices toward a cooperative venture in a Geographical Information Computer System which will help standardize information and maps for the parish and city. This unified and multi-layered system will provide quicker access to necessary information for the citizens in the parish who now must often visit several different buildings and offices to get their business done.
